The ropeway connecting Guwahati to North Guwahati over the Brahmaputra is all set to be launched on August 24, making it the longest river ropeway in Asia. Assam Health, Finance and Education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will inaugurate the ropeway service.
It is to be noted that the one of its kind ropeway will allow the people to cross the Brahmaputra and reach the other bank in just 8-10 minutes.
The beginning of ropeway service will bring a ray of hope and ease to the residents of North Guwahati, who have been facing hurdles in transportation for a long period of time. Besides ending the perils of communication, it is expected to boost the tourism of the state.
The ropeway project has been completed with a cost of Rs. 56 crore. It will start its operations with two cabins and a capacity of 33 passengers including the operator. A passenger will have to spend Rs. 100 to travel in the ropeway.
